Today, internet searches are mainly centered on articles rather than journals, which means that writers must make their titles more informative and enticing than ever before in order to attract readers who will read, cite, and apply their research.

How to write a title?

In this study, we examine the fundamental aspects of 5070 titles from top journals in six human and physical sciences fields in order to discover common structural trends and content concentrations. We show that there are significant disciplinary distinctions that can be traced back to variations in the disciplines and the themes of the articles themselves, in addition to developing a model of title patterns.

The implications of our findings for EAP and ERPP teachers working with early career academic writers are significant.
