Application for Doctoral Research Fellow Positions
OVERALL DESCRIPTION:
Multiple fully-funded Ph.D. positions are available immediately in RAISE Lab
(https://www.raiseclab.com/) at the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). Potential Ph.D. students will undertake research projects in the area of automation and robotics. The expected start
date is January 2023. Candidates will work with Dr. Houtan Jebelli and other RAISE Lab members on research related to Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Digital Twin, Computer Vision, Machine
Learning, Mechatronics, and Physiological Sensing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
An ideal candidate should have one or more degrees related to the above-mentioned research areas,
including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Civil Engineering,
Mathematics, Construction Engineering or other related fields.

Candidates should also be highly motivated, well-organized, and passionate about research with strong academic writing and communication skills.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
In addition to the minimum requirements outlined above, preference is given to candidates with relevant research experiences in one (or more) of the following topics:
- Robotic manipulator control system
- Human-robot interaction
- Physiological sensing
- Flexible biosensor design and fabrication
- Digital twin development
An ideal candidate should have experience in applying or developing computer vision, machine learning, and Al-based algorithms to solve real-world problems.
Candidates with prior working knowledge of Python, MATLAB, JAVA, C#, or other programming languages are preferred. Prior
experience with robot programming (such as Robot Operating System (ROS)) is a plus.
ASSISTANTSHIP PACKAGE:
Competitive stipend, full tuition waiver, and healthcare. Room and board expenses will be covered for research travels (conferences, data collections).
